Hope all is well with everyone. We are enjoying the weather getting warmer. Jenni is not working anymore so she is able to go out with Patches. We have another sonogram scheduled for two weeks. Here is a recent "belly shot". Sorry about the dirty mirror (it's not dirty anymore!LOL)

We had a nice relaxing day at home. Went to church in the morning, made a nice ham dinner for two (with lots of leftovers!) and watched movies all day! Hope you all had a wonderful and blessed Easter.

I got the results from my Gestational Diabetes test today and I am fine!! Yay! Against all odds I dont have it! My appt with the cardiologist is on the 22nd. I wore a heart monitor for 24 hours, that sucked! So I will get the results at the appointment.

John is busy working, I am busy not working!! LOL! Just kidding. I still work part time, but its getting really hard. I get too tired and my stomach cramps up really easily, especially when I walk too much! Very frustrating because I want to work but my body is telling me it cant! I am doing what I can though.

Hope you all are doing well. We love you and miss you very much!

Iditarod 2009

Even though John isn't affiliated with the lodge anymore, he does have friends out there. He went out to help during the Iditarod. He had a lot of fun, went snow machining, built his bonfire and got to shoot stuff. What more could he ask for?

THE CUTEST BABY!

So I keep saying this, but I really do think he is THE CUTEST little baby... and he isn't even born yet! He doesn't look like a little alien anymore! This is getting really exciting!! The due date is July 2nd. He is the 65% for weight and height! So he is PERFECT! But what did you expect from me?? LOL!! Just kidding.

I start class again on Monday, my last quarter till the baby comes. This quarter ends middle of June, perfect timing. I am working part time and plan on working as long as I can. We will see what the doctor says though. She told me at my last appt that I need to sit between clients and take a 10 or 15 min break. I don't think that's possible but I will try. I have an appt with a cardiologist to check out my heart, see if its strong enough for labor. On Monday I have a more extensive test for gestational diabetes, so we'll see. It's three months away but I feel like I am falling apart already!! I only did 15 clients yesterday, in the 6 hours I worked and I couldn't move!! Pre-pregnancy I was doing over 30 a day!! Oh well, it's all worth it in the end!

I decorated the nursery. I will take pictures when I get the crib set up. Its super cute. It's green and yellow, John put up white shelves. I put up wall decals of classic pooh with honey pots and bees. Its adorable! Too bad he will out grow winnie the pooh! I did find some cute trucks though......

IT'S A BOY!

Ok, so we were right! It's a boy. And he isnt shy. When the doctor turned on the screen this was the first thing we saw!

Doctor said it was a good thing we wanted to know cuz we would have any way!! We all laughed for our little show-off!
We are very excited. Jenni is allready buying cute baby boy clothes. We have bought a stroller, a cradle and a rocking chair. A friend gave us an infant car seat, a baby bath, toys, and some clothes. And another friend is offering her 4 in 1 crib, dresser, changing table combo! So we are pretty much going to be set! All thats needed are the basics, like bath stuff, towels, blankets, first aid kit, crib sheets, cradle sheets, bottles, stuff like that. Hopefully we will get that stuff as gifts (or gift cards)... hint, hint ;) . We also will need a crib mattress and a changing pad, as well as a larger car seat (eventually). Jenni really wants a pack n play (the kind with the bassinet and changing table) to keep downstairs but it's not a necessity.

It's been a while

Sorry it's been a while since I have written anything. John and I are doing well. Working hard, and just trying to get through the winter. It's been warm lately, after -22, anything is warmer!! We have an ultrasound next week and we will find out for sure what we are having, though we are sure it's a boy. Wouldnt it be funny if it was a girl?

Just wanted to give you all the great news. We are expecting a baby!!! FINALLY!!! I am due around the end of June. I have my first appointment Friday morning and an ultrasound to find out how far along I really am next Thursday. Hope you all are doing well!! I will write more when I am feeling better.

This month has been a lot of fun. After the King Season,John was able to take a week and a half off from fishing. He came home and worked at the car wash, figures huh? We took a day trip to Whittier, Alaska, (nothing there!) and we went to Seward, Alaska, that was fun. There is a marine museum there and I took some pictures and a video of the birds. John hasnt been as busy with clients as he would have liked to be, but hopefully it will get better. I was managing two salons, but now am back to one. I just got back from the lodge, I was there for a few days (with an ear infection no less!), and the silvers are running right in front of the lodge. I was able to fish right off the dock or in the boats that are anchored on the bank. I caught my limit of three fish a day (one day I was done in less than an hour!). I was baiting my own hook, casting the bait caster (apparently that is hard to do, I however, dont agree), holding the fish and I even filleted a fish. Those of you who know me, know that that is a HUGE DEAL!!! My friend Lisa came over and we anchored her boat out in the river and fished. We both had a good time. I netted my first fish, it was easy. John is teaching me to drive the boat, I did it a little bit this trip, but I am a little nervous about it. So I guess you could say I have become a "fisherwoman" (it only took three years!). John is so proud, hahahaha. Here are some pictures of the latest adventure! Enjoy!!!

I was able to go out to the lodge for a week to see John. It was so nice to get away for a bit. I fell two nights before and sprained my thumb so I didnt get to do too much fishing, but I still had a lot of fun. Ok, so translation:

Those who have done needlepoint know it's important which side of the fabric to diplay. One side is full of crisscrossing threads and tiny knots that make the design difficult to recognize. But when it's turned over, the entire picture comes to view. This poem helps me trust God when I can't understand why things happen the way they do. The dark thread spoken of in the poem, are the hard and difficult times in life. The gold and silvers and light colors, make up the good or even great times. The finished product is our life, made up of hard times and good times. That's my opinion anyway.

Well, John just left and I am already sad. Figures huh? I am trying to be strong, but sometimes it's just too hard.

This year will be ok I think. I have lots of stuff to keep me busy. I am managing two salons, moving in to the condo and going to Bellingham in Aug. I plan on going out to the Lodge second week in June, so I have that to look forward too.

I just wanted to let you all know I guess that I am really going to need some love and support the next few months. I tend to get pretty emotional, especially in the morning when I wake up and at night in bed.

I'm really going to try very hard to be strong, but sometimes the tears just come and I can't stop them.

Well, many of you know as we do that life is full of disapointments. Unfortunalty John and I are experiencing one of the many right now. After much planning and excitment about building our house. We were told that the company we were going to use is no longer taking new clients. The housing market has decreased so much that they are not starting any new builds. So we are not building our house like we had planned.
We are trying to get approved to buy but we do not have very good credit so it doesnt look good. We are also looking for a bigger apartment and having a hard time finding one that we can afford, or that will take two cats and a small dog.
Other than that, and the usual ei; no money, cant have kids, yata, yata, yata (the same old song and dance), we are doing good. I am managing both the 5th Ave Salon and Dimond mall Salon. It is fun and a lot of work. John is getting ready to head out to the lodge. He is excited to start his shopping for equipment.

Easter

We went out to the lodge for the weekend. We had a lot of fun. John and Chad were "logger men" and I watched! I only fell off the snow machine twice!! We are going to velcro my butt to the seat!!

Iditarod 2008

John and I went to the Lodge for the Iditarod. We had a blast!!! John made a huge bonfire, it took him about two days of chopping and hauling wood to get it built and it went up in flames in about an hour.

The Lodge had about 70 guests. They had a catered dinner (appetizers, salad, main course, and dessert) and breakfast. The hot water wasn't working in the dining hall, so we had to carry the dishes to the main Lodge to wash them, then carry them back to the dining hall. It was quite the workout! After all those dishes, I never wanted to do dishes again.

I didn't get to see too many dog teams go by but I did see a few and tried to get pictures. It was night time and it was dark so I didn't get too many good pictures.

The weather was really great, it wasn't too cold and it only snowed a little. On the day we were supposed to come home, we couldn't make it out on a plane so we built a "bus". Four of us rode on lawn chairs strapped to trailers. It was pretty interesting!! It was a bumpy ride. Chad was driving the snow machine that was pulling us, he's really careful, and we had no incidents.

It is good to be home, but we miss our lodge "family", and John can't wait for summer to get here, so he can fish, fish, fish!!!

John and I had the awesome opportunity to take snowmobiles out to McDougall Lodge for the weekend of our anniversary. Saturday afternoon we met Chad at Deshkah Landing in Willow, AK. We got on our helmets, snow suites and everything was all ready. I'm sitting on the snowmobile thinking, "what am I doing here? I've never done this kind of thing." I'm feeling excited and nervous at the same time. Ready to start this adventure. When we take off from the landing, it's FREEZING!! Literally, it's about 20 below zero. I'm driving along, following Chad, I'm doing pretty good, maneuvering around the corners, staying on the trail, when I look off to my right and about 2 feet from me I see WATER!! I start envisioning the worst "one turn in the wrong direction and I'm in freezing water. It suddenly dawns on me, (though I already knew but didn't comprehend until I actually saw it) we are driving ON the river. This same river that I rode in a boat, I am now driving on top of it! CRAZY!!
After staring straight ahead for while, I realize, I can actually move my head and see what is around me. It was so beautiful. Mt. McKinley looming in the distance, hills, mountains, trees, all covered in snow. Such an awesome sight to see. Just as I'm starting to really enjoy the scenery, I notice Chad above me, slowing down a little and then he disappears. OK, thinking the worst again.... Then I see him again, just as I get to the same spot. A big drop in the trail! I keep going, (what else can I do?) and I drop as well. "That wasn't so bad". We keep going for a while, lost track of the time. All of a sudden I see a wall of snow ahead!! I've never done this before, do I slow down, speed up, what? Well, my smart head decides to speed up, after all, how else will I make it up the wall? The front of the machine hits the "wall" (now a hill) went right up it, when the machine landed, I didn't. My feet and butt came off the seat and all I could think was "DON'T LET GO!". When the machine hit the ground, (OK, so you think I landed on the ground don't you?) I ended up back on the machine. "Amazing" I told myself, "well, maybe next time I wont speed up". A little further down the trail I notice that Chad has stopped. I stop as well and he tells me that he hasn't seen John for a little while. He goes back to see where John is, turns out Johns trailer had gotten stuck in some soft snow. While they are gone, working on getting him out I am waiting in about 30 below zero temperatures! I am walking, jumping, stretching, anything to keep warm! Finally, what seemed like hours later (numb fingers, and face, thank goodness for boot warmers, my feet were toasty), they pull up beside me and we get going again. I just kept saying to myself, "this better be over soon". I'm not sure how long we were on the trail but when we finally pulled up to the lodge, it was such a beautiful sight to my cold, tired body!
We stayed at the lodge for 4 days. It was supposed to be 3 days, but the day we were to leave it was about 40 below zero at the landing, way too cold to be on the river, where it is about 10 degrees cooler. Our first night at the lodge we saw the Northern Lights. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen! Green, White and Orange lights streaking through the black sky. So cool!!
We stayed in a little cabin next to the main lodge. I stayed in the lodge most of the day, John and Chad where out and about getting wood, fixing pipes and freighting to the landing and back once.Our last morning there, John and I had to go to the bathroom but we didn't want to wake up Chad or his mom so we decided to use the out house! I have never had to pee on a toilet that had a ring of ice around it, and I never want to again. I thought I might get stuck :) .
We left on Tuesday and it was 6 degrees at noon. The trip back to the landing was much like the trip out. This time I was following John, not Chad, who was having fun playing around on the trail. Well, John decided to take us down the wrong trail and we had to turn around. When I turned the machine I ended up going in to some soft snow. I guess the machine didn't want me on it anymore, because as it turned to the left, my body went to the right! When I was somewhere between the machine and the ground, I was thinking "now, how in the world did I end up here?" After landing in the snow, I took a mental inventory of vital body parts. "Arms, check...legs, check...head, check....OK, I'm fine" Then I started laughing as I realized, I cant get up!! The snow was too soft and I couldn't get out of it! Chad and John pulled up about then and that's when I learned I was supposed to give a "thumbs up" if I was OK, thus eliminating the feeling of panic from the one who loves you! I grabbed hold of the machine and pulled my self up and back on to the machine. We all took off again and in what seemed like forever, we made it back to the landing, in one piece!
After putting a heater under our vehicle to warm it up enough to start (it was 30 below), we headed back home, to the nice, warm 15 degrees in Anchorage!
Now, the day after arriving home, we are thawed out and reminiscing of our latest adventure.

Off the planet at 20 below!!

John and I are going to the Lodge for our anniversary weekend. We will be taking snowmobiles from Deshkah landing to the Lodge, about a 3 hour ride. Temperature is at around 20 below out there on the tundra!! We are really excited. We bought ourselves helmets and snow suites. I will write when we get back about our adventure!!

Sunday, January 27 the Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Siants passed away at age 97. President Gordon B. Hinckley was the 15th president of the church. To "non-Mormons" he can be described as the "Pope" of this religion. President Hinckley, was president for nearly 13 years. He took over as president and prophet on March 12, 1995 and oversaw one of the greatest periods of expansion in church history. The number of mormon temples worldwide more than doubled, from 49 to more than 120 and church membership grew from about 9 million to more than 12 million. He became by far this church’s most traveled leader in history. And the number of Mormons outside the United States surpassed that of American Mormons for the first time since the church, the most successful faith born in the United States, was founded in 1830.“His life was a true testament of service, and he had an abiding love for others,” said U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican and fellow Mormon. “His wit, wisdom, and exemplary leadership will be missed by not only members of our faith, but by people of all faiths throughout the world.”-LDS Living NewsI am LDS. I woke this morning to this news and I was understandably upset. Through out the day I have noticed that not many people know of his death. This man, who has exhibited vitality and energy as he has traveled about the world meeting and speaking to members of the Church, changing lives, seems to have gone unnoticed within the media. Last week, Heath Ledger died unexpectadly and his death was front page news in every newspaper and magazine and was brodcasted on every channel. How sad is it that in this day and age, an actors death was more televised and more people were affected than by the death of the man who served those people, loved them, and prayed for them every day.

Sorry, it's been a while

Sorry, it's been a while since we have written anything. We have been busy, busy, just working and getting past Christmas.

Christmas was fun. John was a kid in a candy store. He basically picked all of his gifts, only a few surprises. Jenni's gift was her mom for her birthday. She came for a few days. We had fun showing her the area and taking her around Anchorage. Not much to do in the winter months. I think the biggest complaint was the cold (and it wasnt cold yet!).

Genny and Scotty moved back to California. We are pretty sad about that, hope they can come back. Jenni is having a hard time with out her friend. Not looking forward to the summer without Genny. Hopefully she will be too busy with the house plans to be sad.

Jenni is getting ready for a trip to Seattle in February, for a business meeting. Hopefully she will be able to visit some friends in the area.

We are off the the Lodge for a week at the beginning of March to help out during the Iditarod. The lodge has about 70 guests this year!!!

Not much else to report. We will write about the Iditarod, it should be tons of fun!!!

Christmas in Alaska

Not too much new stuff happening here. Not very much snow this year, kind of weird. John and I are just busy working. Genny, Amber and Scottie are still here, and driving us nuts!! We are getting ready for Christmas with the family. Christmas morning, presents at our place and brunch at Gennys. My mom will be here on the 30th. Im sooooo excited for that! She will only be here a few days so I am trying to plan what we can do in such a short amount of time.

One night I woke up to a lound noise in the living room. When I went in to the room, my tree was on the floor and Holly was no where to be found.

Recovering

Hello everybody. I had the laser procedure done last week and unfortunately it did not work to reduce the pressure in my eye. So on Wed, (the 7th) I had an eye surgery called Trabeculectomy. I am still recovering, it is a little painful, and very blurry on my left side. I love you all and appreciate your support and prayers.

Our step sister Amber turned 21 and we all went out for the evening. We had a lot of fun. John and I were the only sober two in the group. We went to a Karaoke bar and watched all the drunk people make fools of themselves. We had a good time being out, all though it's not an environment we like to be in, it was still nice to be out with the family.

John and I are just getting over being sick. We both had a cold that held on tight for a while! Next, I got the flu, and then I had more problems with my eye!! The problems just kept coming but I think we are out of the woods now and ready for winter. John says "BRING IT ON!"

It snowed for one day and then it melted, that's just fine, as it will happen again, and next time it wont melt!! With that little bit of snow, John was very busy at the tire shop, no days off in over three weeks. He worked straight through his cold, cough and everything. I am soooo proud of him. I could never do the things he does and be as strong as he is. I love him so much!!! Now he is getting ready for something different, he just got promoted to Managment. He is the manager of the car wash section of the shop. His step sister, Amber works there too so he gets to be her boss, but he likes her so it's ok. He's excited and hopefully it means more money... that's always nice.

I had some more problems with my eye, my eye pressure is too high, causeing blurry vision on the left eye only, so I am wearing reading glasses, sometimes for more than just reading! I might have a lazer surgery to reduce the pressure, I will know this week if I am having the surgery. It's just a day thing, really simple and I can return to work right away. But as always, prayers will help!

Well, we finally found property, now we have to find the time to do the paperwork and purchase aggreement, so forth. We are very excited!!!!

We were approved for a loan to build our house!!! I am so excited. We are still looking for property, it seems to be a long process. We will start the building in the Spring (around April). This is the picture of our future home. Keep the prayers coming and anyone who wants to help, come on up!!!!!

Homer, Alaska

John and I went to Homer, Alaska, to go Halibut fishing. Homer is about 200 miles south, as far south as you can go in Alaska by road.

We had a really great time. We stayed at a really nice place, Lands End Resort, we ate at good restaurants and did some shopping. We caught a few good fish and the weather was gorgeous!!! It was really nice and we enjoyed spending the time together after being apart all summer.

Life In Alaska, 2006 & Jan-Sept 2007

2006 was an interesting year. A lot of ups and downs and turn arounds. When we arrived in Anchorage, we were totally broke, our apartment wasn't ready so we stayed at church members house for a night. We moved our stuff in to our apartment and realized we didn't bring any necessities with us, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning stuff, so we went to walmart with a couple of bucks and bought a roll of toilet paper and some other things. The first week was very hard but Johns Grandma sent us some money so we could get the things we needed, like food (thanks grandma!)

I started working beginning of May, and John left for the lodge around the same time. This was my first time alone...terrifying!! I was in a new place, didn't know anyone, and didn't know where anything was. A lot of praying and a blessing from Members of the ward and I was OK enough to survive.

The summer was a lot of fun. Every couple of weeks I was able to go out to the lodge to see John and have some fun and do A LOT of fishing. My dad calls me a "Fisher- woman". The lodge staff was very nice and treated us like family. John had a blast!!

The fishing season ended around September and obviously I survived the summer without John, I think I became more independent and able to live on my own. Although, I was more than excited for John to come home!

John came home in September and got a job at a tire shop. Tire shops are very busy that time of year, between summer and winter, for "changeover", when people change their summer tires to winter tires. And again in April when they change them back! John was very busy.

Winter was a blast!! SNOW EVERYWHERE!! I thought it would never go away! It just kept coming and coming and coming.......... But surprisingly it wasn't too cold. Only in the wind (warning: stay out of the wind!!)

In November, I got a serious eye infection in my left eye.

We were lucky enough to catch it in time, a day later and I would have gone blind in my eye. Unfortunately, it hasn't gone away yet and I am still having a hard time of it.

I was able to go home for a couple of weeks after Christmas. I had a great time visiting with my family and friends. We are hoping to make it a yearly thing, next time with both of us though.

In March we were able to go out to the Lodge for the Iditarod (dog sled race from Anchorage to Nome). The Mushers go right in front of the Lodge. We had a big bon-fire on the River (yes ON the river, on the ice!!). We went Snow-mobiling on the river and in the back country. It was a lot of fun!! I cant wait until next year.

The day we came home from the lodge I had a steroid injection in my left eye. It was pretty gross, and painful.

In April, John went to Oregon the get some more of our things out of storage. Genevieve, Johns sister, came to Alaska and has decided to stay.

So far 2007 has been pretty good. John did very well at the Lodge this year, over 100% retention. He is booked for next year King Season. He does so well because he love his job and it shows in his work and his clients love fishing with him. He has fun and they do too.

This summer was easier on me, I had Genny to keep me company, and we had fun! I wasn't able to go out to the lodge as much as I would have liked to but it was still a good summer.

I am still managing at the Fifth Avenue Mall, I am expecting a new store in Wasilla, Alaska, about 45 min from here. I will be managing that store when it opens. There are 3 stores here in Anchorage. I might get a promotion to Area Supervisor where I will be supervising the 4 Alaska stores and some stores in Washington. I will be based here in Alaska but travel a lot to Washington. Hopefully I wont be too busy to see my family there.

We are planning on moving to Wasilla next year, it's a smaller town outside of Anchorage. We are hoping to build a house there.

Starting Over

Well, since we just started this blog, I decided to get everyone caught up on our adventures in Alaska.

We moved to Anchorage in April of 2006, John got a job as a fishing guide for McDougall Lodge, and I transfered to the Mastercuts here in Anchorage.

The trip up was absolutely beautiful. The scenery undiscribable. Luckily I was able to take a lot of pictures. Here are some of the pictures for all to enjoy.
